Overview / Executive Summary
The Maneater is the University of Missouri’s student newspaper. I joined the graphics staff during my freshman year as a designer and illustrator, creating visuals for both print and digital stories. In my sophomore year, I was promoted to Graphics Editor, where I led the graphics team while continuing to produce original illustrations and designs for publication. During this time, I also collaborated with fellow section editors to rebrand MOVE Magazine, The Maneater’s digital lifestyle publication.
The Challenge
The Maneater needed to produce high-quality, visually engaging designs under tight deadlines. The challenge was to create graphics that supported a wide range of stories while maintaining clarity and visual quality across both print and digital platforms.
The Solution / Process
As a designer, I created original illustrations for a wide range of stories, from movie reviews to feature tributes. As Graphics Editor, I facilitated weekly design meetings where staffers selected stories, tracked progress to meet publication deadlines, and met with other section editors to ensure everything was on track. I also worked with other section editors to rebrand MOVE Magazine, developing a refreshed visual identity that positioned the digital magazine as a more polished and contemporary extension of The Maneater.
